Zabriskie Point Death Valley Nightscape

Death Valley is an amazing National Park full of color and surreal landscapes that photographers clamor to shoot every year. Our journey will take us to the lowest elevation in the United States, Badwater Basin, where the salt flats provide an incredible foreground to the mountains surrounding the valley. Later, we will venture all the way to a dried ocean bed deep in the mountains surrounded by Joshua Trees that harbor the famed Sailing Stones of the Racetrack Playa! The numerous possibilities in this National Park will give our party near limitless opportunities to create wonderful works of art.

Sailing Stone of Racetrack Playa - Death Valley

Day 1: Our workshop will begin at 3PM in Death Valley, we will have a late lunch before our first shoot where we can introduce ourselves and discuss what each persons goals are, the itinerary, and any osther questions you may have for the tour. We will travel to a marvelous location and take advantage of the evening's golden hour and shoot into the early night.  We will quickly move from stacking images for night sky imagery to creating long exposure panoramic imagery.

Eureka Sand Dunes

Day 2  and 3: Over these 2 days, our group will begin each afternoon and work through our previous night's images while perfecting our understanding of using several techniques to enable better Signal - to - Noise ratios in our images. Some features and landscapes truly shine during afternoon golden hour like the Artist's Palette and the Salt Flats. We will use these opportunities to photograph and learn how to use the light at different times of the afternoon and evening to create engaging imagery to use in nightscapes at each incredible at each incredible area. If we are fortunate, we may be able to witness false dawn also know as zodiacal light rising from the east.

Day 4: We will take our last morning together to develop techniques using Adobe Lightroom (free trial is available). We will work together to maximize the potential of the software and create works of art that you can cherish for years to come and share with your friends and family when you get home. Post processing imagery together will give you the means to develop your images quickly and efficiently using the adjustments tool bar and plugins available for Lightroom.
